It is worth being realistic about what a 300mm bit does and does not do well. Its virtue is reach that nothing else offers. Its limitations are flex and alignment, and at this length both are pronounced. The shank twists noticeably under torque, so there is a lag between the driver and the screw, and any angle between the driver and the fixing axis is magnified along 300mm into a tip that is wandering off the recess. A long bit driven crooked will cam out and round a screw far faster than a short one.

Three things make it work. Line the driver up on the axis of the fixing before you start, and check it by eye down the length of the bit. Start slowly to let the screw find its own line. And keep firm pressure straight down the axis throughout — which matters doubly on a Phillips tip, since the recess was deliberately designed to cam out at a set torque and pressure is the only real defence.

Where possible, steady the bit near the work with your free hand for the first few turns.

The steel is S2 industrial, hardened and tempered to HRC 58-62. S2 is a shock-resisting tool steel, and on a shank this long the toughness matters as much as the hardness — a brittle bit of these proportions would snap under the first cam-out.
