There is a consequence of Torx at high torque that catches people out, and it is worth stating because it is the opposite of what they are used to. A cross-head screw warns you: as the torque rises, the recess cams out and the driver jumps, which tells you the screw is home whether you wanted to know or not. Torx does not do that. There is no ejecting force, so the driver simply keeps applying torque until something gives — and what gives is the screw thread, the material it is going into, or the head twisting off.

That makes the clutch setting on a drill-driver more important with Torx than it ever was with a cross-head, and it makes a torque wrench genuinely worthwhile on fixings that have a specified figure. The drive that does not fail is also the drive that will not warn you.
