Driving a long screw into hard timber takes sustained torque over many turns. With a cross-head that is a fight from start to finish: the Phillips recess is designed to cam out at a set torque, so the driver is trying to eject itself the whole way down, and by the time the screw is home the recess is often chewed. A Torx recess has driving faces almost perpendicular to the turn, so there is no ejecting force at all — the bit stays put and the torque goes into the screw. On a 100mm decking screw that is the difference between one clean drive and a rounded head halfway in.

T25 also appears throughout vehicle interior and body fixings, machinery covers, and furniture and cabinet fittings.

At 50mm this is the power bit length, keeping the chuck clear of the work.

The steel is S2 industrial at HRC 58-62 — a shock-resisting tool steel, which is what a bit driven by an impact driver needs: hardened hard enough to hold the six points, tough enough to absorb thousands of hammer blows a minute rather than shattering.
