Both are cross-shaped recesses and they look alike at a glance. A Pozidriv recess has four additional small ribs set between the main arms of the cross, and a Pozidriv screw head usually shows four fine lines radiating between the cross arms. The driving geometry is different too: where a Phillips recess was deliberately designed to cam out at a set torque, Pozidriv was developed specifically to stop that — its flanks are close to parallel, so it transmits far more torque without pushing the driver out.

The practical consequences follow. A Phillips bit in a Pozidriv screw contacts only part of the recess and cams out early, rounding the head. A Pozidriv bit in a Phillips screw sits badly and does the same. If screws are rounding out under a bit that looks the right size, this is very often why — and it is worth checking the screw head for those four fine lines before blaming the bit.

Pozidriv is common on furniture and cabinet fittings, construction and chipboard screws, and a great deal of European-origin hardware. PZ1 is the smaller size, fitting lighter screws.

The steel is S2 industrial at HRC 58-62 — a shock-resisting tool steel taken to a hardness well above a hand driver's, because a bit in a power driver is spun fast, cammed and hammered thousands of times. Satin finished, ten per plastic case.
