The single most valuable habit with hex socket screws is cleaning the recess before you drive, and it is worth explaining why it matters so much more than on other drives. A hex recess is a plain six-sided hole with no taper and no self-centring, so anything sitting in the bottom of it stops the bit going fully home. Paint, corrosion, dried thread-lock, road dirt and workshop grime all accumulate in a recess that faces upwards, and a bit that is 2mm short of full depth is bearing on a fraction of the available face area.

Under a power driver, that rounds the recess in about a second.

So: pick the dirt out with a scriber or a small screwdriver, blow it clear, and if the bit does not drop in fully, tap it home with a light hammer tap before applying any turning force. It takes ten seconds and it is the difference between a screw that comes out and one that has to be drilled.
