Stripping insulation with a knife is quick, and it is also how conductors get nicked. A nicked strand is a weak point that heats up under load and eventually fails, usually inside a wall. A self-adjusting wire stripper removes that risk entirely, and it does it faster than a knife once you have used one for five minutes.
This 6.5" Harden stripper adjusts automatically to the diameter of the wire. There is no gauge to select and no dial to set: you put the cable in the jaws and squeeze, and the tool grips the insulation, sizes itself to the conductor and pulls the insulation off in one movement. That matters most when you are working through a consumer unit or a junction box full of mixed sizes — with a gauged stripper you are re-setting the tool for every changed cross-section, and the temptation is to leave it on the last setting and cut too deep.
It handles wire up to 2.6mm diameter, which covers the sizes an electrician meets on lighting and power circuits and the great majority of appliance and control wiring. For heavier cable than that you want a dedicated cable stripper, and for very fine electronics wire a precision tool.
Because the tool sets its own depth against the conductor rather than against a mark, it strips a consistent length with a clean square shoulder every time. That is not cosmetic — a clean strip means the full conductor goes into the terminal, which is what a good connection depends on, and it is what an inspector looks for.
The regular buyers are electricians, above all: house wiring, rewires, distribution board work, and anyone terminating a lot of conductors in a day, where the time saved is real and the reduction in call-backs is worth more. Appliance repair and electronics technicians use them for the same accuracy. Vehicle auto-electricians working on looms and accessory wiring find them just as useful, and solar installers doing DC runs. Hardware shops serving electrical trade customers sell them consistently — they come 60 to a carton.
One piece of advice worth passing on: a stripper is a stripper. Using it to cut wire, as everybody does, blunts the cutting notch and eventually stops it stripping cleanly. Keep a pair of side cutters beside it and the tool will last years.
We stock the electrical hand-tool range alongside this — insulated screwdrivers, testers, crimping tools and side cutters. Ask on WhatsApp if you want them priced together, and we deliver island-wide.
