The word doing the work on this specification is anti-static, and it describes a hazard most people never see happen. Walking across a floor, standing up from a chair or peeling tape from a reel can leave several thousand volts of static charge on a person. Touch a sensitive semiconductor with that charge on you and it discharges through the component in a fraction of a microsecond. The damage is usually invisible — no mark, no smell, no failure on the bench. The board works, goes back to the customer, and dies three weeks later. That is the classic pattern of electrostatic discharge damage, and it is why anti-static handling exists.
Anti-static tools are made so that charge bleeds away gradually rather than jumping in one destructive spark. Combined with a wrist strap and a mat, that is the difference between a repair that lasts and one that comes back.
The tweezers are high quality stainless steel with, as the specification puts it, excellent elasticity. Elasticity is precisely the right property to specify for tweezers and it is the one cheap ones lack. A pair of tweezers is a spring: the arms must bend under your fingers and return exactly to where they started, thousands of times. Steel that has been formed or hardened poorly takes a permanent set instead, and once the tips no longer meet, a pair of tweezers is scrap — they will not pick up a surface-mount resistor, and they will drop a screw into a chassis at the worst possible moment. Stainless brings the other benefit that matters here: it does not rust, so it will not leave iron particles or corrosion on a board or a contact.
At 125mm they are the general-purpose bench length, long enough for control and short enough to work under a magnifier.
The work: placing and removing surface-mount components, holding small parts while they are soldered, dressing and positioning fine wire, retrieving screws and washers from inside equipment, handling ICs and connectors, and picking debris out of assemblies. Outside electronics they earn their keep in watch and instrument repair, laboratory work and anywhere small things need to be held precisely.
