That combination is more sensible than it first sounds. A great deal of electrical installation work runs alongside plastic conduit, and an electrician on a first fix spends the day alternating between cutting cable and cutting the containment it runs in. Having one tool in the hand that does both saves reaching for a second, and a proper shearing blade cuts plastic conduit far better than the two usual improvisations — a hacksaw, which leaves swarf and a ragged end that will not seat in a coupler, or a knife, which slips.

For the electrical side, the tool uses precise knife holes rather than holes formed in the jaw castings. That distinction matters because of how tight the tolerance on a stripping hole really is: it has to be a fraction larger than the copper and a fraction smaller than the insulation, so it severs the insulation and passes over the conductor without touching it. The consequence of a clean strip is worth stating because the damage from a poor one is invisible. Copper that has been nicked carries current through a reduced section at that point and runs hotter than the surrounding cable, and it is mechanically weakened exactly where the conductor is bent into its terminal. That produces faults months later — the intermittent connection nobody can trace, or a terminal running hot in a consumer unit, which is a common beginning to an electrical fire.

And keep the blades clean of insulation and plastic swarf, because build-up around a stripping hole changes its effective size and is the usual reason a good stripper slowly stops cutting cleanly.
