The contents are one female coupler, three male plugs and one female plug. The coupler is the socket that goes on the end of the hose. The three male plugs screw into three different tools, so an impact wrench, a blow gun and a tyre inflator can each carry their own plug permanently and swap onto the hose in a second. The female plug covers a tool whose inlet is a male threaded stub rather than a threaded port.

That mix is deliberate, and it reflects how a workshop actually looks: one hose, several tools, and one of them with the other thread arrangement.

Steel rather than plastic or die-cast is the specification worth paying for here. Couplers are stepped on, dropped, dragged across concrete and pulled sideways by a hose under tension. A steel body survives that; the softer alternatives crack at the collar or wear oval and stop sealing.

"Japanese type" is the coupler profile, not the country of origin. Japanese, European and American profiles are similar enough to be mistaken for each other and do not properly fit — force a mismatch and you get a permanent hiss, restricted flow and a joint that may not release under pressure. Everything in this Harden air range is Japanese type, so hose, couplers and plugs all mate correctly. The thread throughout is G1/4", rated to 220psi.

Fit the plugs with PTFE tape on the thread. Almost every leak in a compressed air system is at a screwed joint rather than a push-fit one, and a small permanent leak keeps the compressor running all day for nothing — over a year that is a real electricity cost and unnecessary wear.
