1/2" Air Impact Wrench (640N.m)

Six hundred and forty newton metres is comfortably more than any car or light van wheel nut needs, and that headroom is the point: an impact wrench works by hammering rather than by steady pull, so it shifts fasteners that a breaker bar would round off or that would simply lift the vehicle. Suspension bolts, hub nuts, exhaust fixings and seized chassis fasteners all come to it.

The twin hammer mechanism is what delivers that. Two hammers strike the anvil per revolution rather than one, which gives higher torque with less vibration through the handle and less recoil trying to twist the tool out of your grip. It is also smoother on the wrist over a long day than a single-hammer design.

Free speed is 7500rpm, which is what makes it quick to run a nut down once it is loose.

Air consumption is 120L/min (4.2 SCFM) at 6 bar, and that is the figure to check against your compressor. 4.2 SCFM is modest — this wrench will run on a compressor most workshops already own, which is a large part of why the 1/2" size is the popular one. Note the air inlet is 1/4".

At 2.76kg it is a one-handed tool you can hold at arm's length and use above your head, which matters for exhaust and underbody work.

A warning worth taking seriously: do not tighten wheel nuts with it. An impact wrench has no idea how tight it has made a fastener, and over-torqued wheel nuts stretch studs, warp brake discs and are genuinely dangerous. Run them up with the impact wrench by all means, then set them properly with a torque wrench. We stock those.
