1" Air Impact Wrench

At this level the numbers describe a different category of job: earth-moving and mining plant, heavy truck and trailer axles, large industrial machinery, crane and rig fasteners, marine work. These are fasteners tightened to specifications that no hand tool will move and that have then been in place through years of vibration, heat and corrosion.

It uses a pinless hammer mechanism rather than the twin hammer of the smaller wrenches, and that is the significant engineering difference. A pinned mechanism relies on a pin to carry the hammer blows, and at these torque levels that pin becomes the part that fails. A pinless design removes it, so there is no single small component taking the whole load — which is why pinless mechanisms are used at the top of the range where reliability under sustained heavy impact matters more than compactness.

Free speed is 3500rpm, the lowest of the three, which is exactly what you expect: heavier hammers and a bigger anvil move more slowly and hit harder.

Be realistic about what it takes to run. Air consumption is 380L/min (13.5 SCFM) at 6 bar — more than three times the 1/2" wrench — through a 1/2" air inlet. That is an industrial compressor requirement, and it must be sustained, because breaking a seized axle nut can mean many seconds of continuous hammering. Feeding it through a small hose or a modest compressor will make an expensive tool feel useless, and the fault will be the supply, not the wrench.

And 16.8kg is not a tool you hold up. It is used at ground level, supported, usually with two hands and often with a second person, and it demands respect: at 3200 N.m the reaction torque will break a wrist if the tool is allowed to twist.

As always, remove and run down with it, then set final torque with a torque wrench. CE approved, supplied in a colour box.
