At 1200mm it takes the tools that defeat everything else: a long spirit level, a wrecking bar, a large pipe wrench, long-handled cutters, a hacksaw, drill extensions, threaded rod, a set of long chisels or masonry bits. Rolled or folded round the tools, the narrow format keeps them together and stops steel banging against steel, which is what dulls edges and chips finishes in transit.

It also solves the carrying problem. Long tools carried loose need one hand each and still get dropped; gathered into a single long bag they become one item to lift, and one item to check you have not left behind.

The fabric is wear-resistant and water-resistant, the same material as the rest of the Harden bag range. Water resistance is worth having on a bag that is likely to spend its life in the back of an open vehicle or on the ground at a site, and wear resistance matters because a long bag gets dragged.

The pockets are there for sorting, which on long tools mainly means keeping them separated so they do not rub. Anything with an edge or a machined face — a level's working edges, a chisel, a threading die — lasts far longer stored apart than jumbled together.

The buyers are plumbers and pipefitters, steel fixers and formwork carpenters, surveyors and setting-out crews, electricians running conduit and tray, and anyone whose kit includes a level they care about. It is also a sensible way to keep a set of long-reach tools together in a workshop rather than propped in a corner.

If your tools are ordinary hand-tool length, the 400, 450 and 500mm bags are the right shape and far easier to carry. This one is for the awkward long items specifically.
