A small chisel is a different tool from a large one, and this one — 6mm across the cutting end, 10mm in the body, 100mm long — is built for precision work at a bench rather than for breaking things out of a wall.
The short length is the defining feature. At 100mm the chisel is held close to the work, which gives far more control over exactly where the edge sits and exactly what the blow does. That matters when the target is small and what surrounds it must not be damaged: cutting a rivet head off without marking the plate underneath, splitting a seized nut, cutting a slot, trimming a small casting, starting a cut precisely on a scribed line, shearing a small pin, working inside a recess where a long chisel simply cannot be angled. A short chisel is also far less likely to be deflected, because there is almost no length to flex.
The material specification is the interesting one here. This is chrome vanadium steel, heat treated to HRC 52 to 58, and that is a meaningfully harder and better specification than the plain carbon steel used on the larger builders' chisels in this range. Chrome vanadium is the alloy used for good spanners and sockets — the chromium and vanadium raise hardness, wear resistance and toughness together. At 52 to 58 Rockwell C, the cutting end holds a keen edge through work on steel rather than rolling over, which is what you want on a precision chisel that is cutting metal rather than splitting masonry.
That hardness carries the usual responsibility. The struck end of any cold chisel is softer than its cutting edge so it can absorb hammer blows, and it will gradually spread into a mushroom with thin curled edges. Those curls are brittle, and a hammer blow eventually snaps one off and throws it at speed — a recognised cause of eye injuries and embedded splinters. Grind the head back to a clean chamfer as soon as a curl forms.
The buyers are engineering and machine shops, vehicle and motorcycle mechanics, fitters and maintenance technicians, sheet metal and fabrication workers, instrument repairers, and hardware dealers supplying workshops.
Working practice. Use a hammer proportionate to the chisel — a heavy hammer on a small chisel is uncontrollable and overshoots. Hold the chisel at a shallow angle so it cuts and lifts rather than digging in. Sharpen with a file or on a grinder, cooling frequently in water, because overheating the edge draws the temper and leaves it soft, which is the usual way a good chisel is ruined. And wear eye protection. Ask us on WhatsApp for a price, or for it with the 8mm size.
