This is the 4mm size, and the character height is the specification to choose on. Four millimetre letters are compact, which suits tools, small components, tags and plates, and any part where a larger mark would be disfiguring or would need more flat surface than exists. Where the mark has to be read at a distance or through grime and paint, the 6mm set is the right one.

Stamping is worth using because of what it survives. A stamped character is displaced metal, not a coating, so it cannot fade, wash off, wear away or be removed with solvent, and it stays legible through heat, oil, weather and years of service. That permanence is the entire reason it remains the standard for marking against theft and for identification that has to outlast paint and labels — a stamped tool recovered years later is still provably yours in a way an engraved sticker never is.

Letters are the more demanding test, since fine detail in characters like B, R and S is the first thing to go on a soft stamp.
