A wire stripper plier combines two jobs that always happen together — stripping insulation and the gripping, cutting and forming that surround it — into one tool, and that is worth more on site than it sounds. Making off a conductor means stripping it, trimming it to length, and usually bending a hook or twisting strands together, and doing that with one tool instead of three is the difference between working smoothly and constantly putting things down.
The stripping side is the part that decides whether the tool is any good, and the reason is worth understanding. A stripper has to cut cleanly through insulation and stop dead at the copper. Go too shallow and the insulation tears rather than pulling off; go too deep and you nick the conductor. A nicked conductor is the invisible fault in electrical work: it has less copper carrying the current at that point so it runs hotter, and it is mechanically weakened exactly where the wire bends into its terminal. The failure comes months later as an intermittent connection or as heat at a terminal — and heat at a terminal inside a consumer unit is how electrical fires start. Clean stripping is a safety matter, not a neatness one.
The material is chrome vanadium, which is what makes the stripping notches hold their dimensions. Those notches are cutting edges with a precise size, and a soft steel lets them wear open — after which they stop cutting through the insulation and start dragging. Chromium provides the hardness and wear resistance to hold that dimension; vanadium refines the grain and adds toughness so the edges do not chip.
The handle is moulded ergonomic TPR, comfortable and grippy in oil, with a black rust-resistant finish. Six inches is the size that suits a pouch and works in an enclosure.
The buyers are electricians and electrical contractors, panel and control builders, auto-electricians, appliance and equipment technicians, solar and equipment installers, and hardware dealers supplying the electrical trade.
Three habits. Match the notch to the conductor size rather than judging by the outside of the cable, since insulation thickness varies between manufacturers. Strip only the length the terminal takes — bare copper beyond a terminal is a shock and short-circuit risk and among the first things an inspector looks for. And check the first strip of any unfamiliar cable by eye. Message us on WhatsApp for a price.
