This is a purpose-built MIG welding plier, and everything about it is aimed at the consumables end of a welding torch — a set of small, repetitive, awkward jobs that welders currently do with whatever is to hand and should not.
Start with spatter. MIG welding throws molten metal, and a good deal of it lands back on the torch: inside the gas nozzle, on the outside of it, and around the contact tip. That build-up is not cosmetic. The nozzle directs the shielding gas that keeps atmosphere away from the weld pool, and a nozzle half full of spatter disrupts that flow. The result is porosity — gas bubbles trapped in the weld — which weakens the joint and is invisible until it is cut or it fails. The catalogue describes the tool as suited to removing spatter from inside, outside and the nozzle end, and that is exactly the job: cleaning all three surfaces so the gas shroud stays where it should.
Then the consumables themselves. Contact tips wear out and burn back, nozzles get damaged, and both need changing regularly during a shift. They are hot, they are small, and they are usually done up tighter than fingers will undo. This plier has profiles for gripping and turning both, so tip and nozzle changes take seconds rather than a search for a spanner that fits.
Doing all of this with combination pliers is what welders actually do, and it is why nozzles get crushed out of round and contact tips get their threads chewed. A tool shaped for the parts does not damage them.
At 210mm it is drop forged high carbon steel, high-frequency hardened, with a comfortable TPR handle.
The buyers are welders and fabrication shops, structural steel and pipework contractors, vehicle body and repair workshops, shipyard and plant maintenance, welding training workshops, and hardware dealers supplying welding trades.
Two notes. Everything you are gripping has just been welding, so it is hot — the plier keeps your hand back, but the parts still need somewhere safe to be put down. And clean the nozzle before the spatter has properly set rather than chipping at it cold, and use anti-spatter spray, which stops most of it sticking in the first place.
