That is a genuine upgrade rather than a label. Plain carbon steel can be hardened, and it works perfectly well, but it reaches a limit — harden it far enough to hold a really keen edge and it becomes brittle. Chrome vanadium solves that by alloying. Chromium raises hardness and wear resistance, so the serrations and the side cutter keep their sharpness through years of use rather than gradually going smooth. Vanadium refines the grain structure of the steel and adds toughness, so the same hardness comes without brittleness. The result is a plier that can be made harder — which is what you want at the cutting edge and on the gripping teeth — while its slender jaws still flex rather than snapping.
