On a cutting plier, leverage is not a comfort feature — it is capacity. How thick a wire a cutter will part is decided almost entirely by how much force reaches the edges, and that is your hand force multiplied by the ratio between handle length and jaw length. A high leverage design moves the pivot closer to the jaws, raising that ratio, so this six inch cutter goes through wire that would defeat a conventional plier of the same size.
The practical result is a tool that punches above its size. Six inches fits in a pouch and works in confined spaces, and with the leverage advantage it handles the heavier stranded cable, thicker single core and tougher tie wire that would normally send you looking for an eight inch pair. For anybody working in panels, ceiling voids and enclosures — where there is no room for a large tool but the cable is still substantial — that combination is exactly right.
It also protects the tool. Most damage to cutters happens when they are forced: the edges deform instead of cutting, and a chipped or dented edge crushes thereafter. A cutter that goes through the wire without a fight stays sharp.
The material is chrome vanadium rather than the carbon steel of the standard range, which matters most at the cutting edge — chromium for hardness and wear resistance to hold that edge, vanadium for grain refinement and toughness so a hard edge is not a brittle one that chips. Black finish for rust resistance, and an ergonomic TPR handle, which is a moulded thermoplastic rubber grip that stays comfortable under repeated hard squeezes.
The buyers are electricians and electrical contractors, panel and control builders, auto-electricians, cable and network installers, maintenance technicians, and hardware dealers supplying the electrical trade.
The material limit is unchanged by the leverage and is worth stating, because more force makes it easier to attempt: hardened steel — nails, screws, spring steel, piano wire, steel banding — is harder than the cutting edges themselves, and cutting it takes a notch out of the jaw permanently. Extra leverage does not make hardened steel cuttable, it just lets you damage the tool more efficiently. Use an end cutter or bolt cutters for that. Cut well back in the jaws rather than at the tips.
