Twelve inches of fencing plier is the heavy version, and the reason to choose it over the ten is force — in both of the ways this tool applies it.
The first is the hammer end. A longer, heavier tool swings with more energy, so staples go into hard timber in fewer blows. In Sri Lanka that matters more than it might elsewhere, because fence posts here are often dense hardwood or seasoned timber that a light tool simply bounces off. A staple half-driven and then bent over is a staple that has to be pulled out again.
The second is cutting. Two extra inches of handle raises the leverage at the cutters noticeably, which is what lets it get through high tensile fencing wire, heavier gauge line and barbed wire without a fight. Forcing an undersized cutter is how edges get chipped, so on heavy wire the larger tool is easier on itself as well as on your hands.
Everything else is the same multi-tool arrangement that makes a fencing plier worth carrying: a hammer face for driving staples, a claw notch for levering them back out, wire cutters, and serrated jaws for gripping and twisting wire. Four tools in one, which is what you want when the work is a long walk from the vehicle.
The jaws are fine carbon steel, hardened, finely polished, with a comfortable dipped handle — a dipped plastic coating rather than a slip-on grip, so it stays put and survives being used outdoors.
The trade against the ten inch version is weight and bulk. Twelve inches is heavier to carry all day and less handy in a belt pouch, so contractors doing long runs of light wire often prefer the smaller one. If your posts are hard and your wire is heavy, this is the one.
The buyers are fencing contractors, farmers and estate managers, plantation operations, livestock and boundary maintenance, landscaping and civil contractors, and hardware dealers supplying agricultural trades.
Keep the cutters away from genuinely hardened steel, since anything harder than the edges takes a permanent notch out of them. Use the hammer face for staples rather than as a general hammer. And oil the pivot and keep the tool dry between jobs, because this is a tool that lives in the weather. Message us on WhatsApp for a price.
