A fencing plier is a toolbox pretending to be a plier, and anybody who has put up a wire fence knows why it exists. Erecting and repairing fencing means driving staples, pulling staples that have gone in crooked, cutting wire, gripping and twisting wire, and doing all of it standing in a field a long way from the van. Carrying four tools for that is how tools get left behind in the grass.
So this one has a hammer face for driving staples, a claw for pulling them, cutters for wire, and serrated jaws for gripping and twisting. The heavy head and stubby handles are shaped for exactly that work rather than for elegance.
Ten inches is the standard size and the one most fencing contractors carry. It has the mass behind the hammer face to drive a staple properly and enough handle for real cutting leverage, while staying light enough to hold all day and to keep in a belt pouch rather than a bag.
The staple claw deserves a mention because it is the feature that saves the most time. Pulling a staple out of a hardwood post with a screwdriver or a claw hammer is slow and usually damages the post; the notch on a fencing plier is shaped to hook under the staple crown and lever it straight out using the head as a fulcrum.
The jaws are fine carbon steel, hardened, finely polished, with a comfortable dipped handle — a plastic coating applied by dipping, which is hard-wearing and does not come loose the way a slip-on grip does.
The buyers are fencing contractors, farmers and smallholders, plantation and estate workers, livestock and poultry operations, landscaping and groundworks contractors, and hardware dealers supplying agricultural customers.
Two practical points. The cutters are for fencing and tie wire, not for hardened material — high tensile fencing wire is close to the limit and hardened steel is past it, and past it means a permanent notch in the edge. And treat the hammer face as a hammer face: it is not a hardened striking surface in the way a proper hammer is, so use it for staples rather than for general hitting. Keep the pivot oiled and the tool out of the wet, since a fencing plier lives outdoors. Ask us on WhatsApp for a price, or for the 12" if your posts are hard.
