The first is the safety lock-back system. On an ordinary knife the blade is held by a screw or a simple catch, and under heavy pressure — pushing through carpet, thick card or insulation board — a blade that is not properly secured can slide back into the housing. That is how hands get cut, because the force you were applying does not stop when the blade does. A lock-back mechanism positively locks the blade in the extended position so it cannot retract under load.

The second is the quick change blade mechanism. On many knives changing a blade means finding a screwdriver and dismantling the head, which takes long enough that people put it off — and carrying on with a blunt blade is the single biggest cause of knife injuries, because a dull edge skids across the material instead of biting into it and travels wherever the force was aimed. A knife whose blade changes in seconds gets a fresh blade when it needs one.

Four SK5 blades are included. SK5 is a Japanese high carbon tool steel, hardened, and it takes a genuinely keen edge — which is what a trimming blade needs.

The handle and housing are aluminium alloy, giving a rigid body that does not flex when you lean into a cut. It takes Harden 570345 blades.

Three habits, and they are the same three that prevent nearly every knife injury. Cut away from your body and never towards your supporting hand. Change the blade as soon as it stops cutting cleanly rather than pressing harder. And use a straightedge and a cutting surface for long cuts rather than freehanding them.
