The blades are chrome molybdenum rather than chrome vanadium. Chrome molybdenum is the alloy used for impact sockets and highly stressed components, and it is chosen for toughness — it takes shock and heavy load and deforms rather than fracturing. On snip blades that means an edge that resists chipping when it meets a fold, a rivet or a hard spot in the sheet, which is the usual way snips are ruined. Chrome vanadium leans slightly more towards hardness and edge retention; chrome molybdenum leans towards toughness.
