The 40mm blade is the working part. Held almost flat against a surface, a keen straight edge gets underneath paint splashes, dried adhesive, silicone, plaster and cement splatter, old gasket material, labels, stickers and tape residue, and lifts them off in one pass. Trying to remove any of those with a cloth, a solvent or a wire brush is slow and often damages the surface more than the deposit did. On glass in particular — cleaning paint or mortar off a window after a job — a scraper is the only practical tool, because a blade at a shallow angle slides across glass without scratching it while cutting straight through whatever is stuck to it.

Three points. Work at a shallow angle — around 30 degrees to the surface — because a steep blade digs in and gouges while a shallow one slides under the deposit and lifts it. Keep the surface wet when scraping glass, since a dry blade on dry glass can drag grit across it and scratch. And change the blade as soon as it stops lifting cleanly; a dull scraper blade requires more force, and more force on a scraper is how surfaces get gouged and hands get cut.
