This one comes with three blades rather than one, and it uses a stainless steel flute — two small differences that both make sense on a knife bought for regular use.
Three blades is a practical inclusion because of how snap-off blades actually get used. Each blade carries seven or eight segments, so three blades is more than twenty fresh edges — enough that there is never a moment where the choice is between carrying on with a blunt blade and stopping to find a new one. That matters, because carrying on with a blunt blade is how people get cut. A dull edge does not bite into the material, it skids across it and travels in whatever direction you were pushing.
The stainless flute is the more interesting specification. The flute is the channel the blade slides in and it is the part of a knife that determines accuracy: a blade held loosely rocks under pressure, wanders off a straightedge and eventually snaps mid-cut. Stainless matters here for a specific reason beyond strength. Knives are used to cut damp materials, insulation, packaging, plasterboard and outdoor work, and a carbon steel flute picks up rust from that moisture. A rusted flute becomes rough, and a rough flute makes the blade stick when you try to advance it, at which point people force it and the blade breaks in the channel. Stainless stays smooth.
It takes Harden 570343 SK5 blades.
The buyers are shopfitters and installers, drylining and insulation contractors, carpet and flooring fitters, packing and dispatch departments, signage makers, maintenance staff, and hardware dealers.
Three habits, all safety ones. Extend one or two segments at most — a long extended blade flexes and snaps under load. Cut away from your body and never towards the hand holding the work. And snap segments off using pliers or the snapper built into the cap, holding the piece in a cloth, since a snapped segment is razor sharp on every edge and does fly.
And retract the blade every time the knife leaves your hand. The most common injury with these is not made during a cut at all — it is made reaching into a bag, a pocket or a toolbox where an open knife is lying. Message us on WhatsApp for a price, or with a box of blades.
