It is worth being clear about how a tool this size is actually used, because it is not used like a pair of pliers. The handles are long enough that most people put one on the ground or against a leg and drive the other down with both hands and their body weight. The compound linkage then multiplies that into a very large force at the jaws. Understanding that changes how you position yourself: brace properly, keep your face well clear of the jaws, make sure nobody is standing where the offcut will go, and wear eye protection. A short piece of heavy rebar leaving a cutter at speed will do damage.

The blades are T8 alloy steel, heat treated — a high carbon tool steel from the cutting tool and die family, chosen for the combination of hardness to shear steel and toughness to survive the forces involved.

The hardness limit on the specification applies here exactly as it does to the smallest cutter in the range: do not cut anything harder than HRC 42. This is worth repeating at the big sizes precisely because the extra leverage tempts people to try. More force does not make a blade able to cut something harder than itself; it just means the blade loses more of its edge when you try. Hardened padlock shackles, high tensile and grade 8.8 bolts, hardened security chain, spring steel and hardened rod are all above the line. Mild steel rebar, plain chain, mild bolts and studs, mesh and fencing sit below it, and that is the tool's proper work.

Three habits. Get the work right into the throat of the jaws where leverage is greatest — cutting at the tips is what breaks blades, and at this size a broken blade is an expensive replacement.
