This is the metal-handled version of the auto-oil glass cutter, and the handle is the whole difference — so it is worth saying honestly what it buys.
A metal handle is heavier and more rigid than a plastic one. On a glass cutter that matters in two ways. The weight helps you keep steady, even pressure through the score, and even pressure is precisely what produces a clean break — a score that varies in depth breaks unpredictably. And the rigidity means the tool does not flex as you push it along a straightedge, which keeps the wheel upright and tracking straight. For anyone cutting glass regularly rather than occasionally, both add up to fewer wasted sheets.
The rest is the same and worth understanding. A glass cutter does not cut, it scores: the wheel makes a shallow continuous scratch that becomes a line of weakness, and when the glass is flexed the crack runs down through the thickness following that line. One pass, then break. Going back over a score is the classic mistake — the wheel skips out of the original line, cuts a second beside it, and the glass breaks along neither.
The auto-oil system feeds cutting oil from a reservoir in the handle to the wheel continuously. It lubricates the wheel so it rolls rather than skids, and it keeps the score wet so the microscopic crack does not close before you break it. A dry score must be broken almost at once; an oiled one breaks cleanly and reliably.
The wheel is YG8 tungsten carbide, and it is the part that determines everything. Glass is hard and abrasive and a steel wheel dulls within a few metres; carbide keeps scoring cleanly for a very long time. Chrome plated, with a stated capacity of 2 to 12mm glass.
The buyers are glaziers and window installers, aluminium and glass fabricators, picture framers, mirror and furniture manufacturers, shopfitters, and hardware dealers supplying the glass trade.
Three habits. One pass, steady speed, steady pressure — listen for an even hiss rather than a scratch, and never rescore. Break immediately after scoring, over a straightedge or with glazing pliers. And wear eye protection and gloves, since glass fragments and fresh edges are what make this trade injury-prone. Message us on WhatsApp for a price.
