What separates it from the smaller sets is not just the number of sizes but which sizes. Alongside the coarse threads, it carries the FINE pitches: 3x0.6, 4x0.75, 5x0.9, 6x0.75, 7x0.75, 8x1.0, 10x1.25 and 12x1.5, each paired with its coarse equivalent. That is the specification that matters, because fine threads are exactly what catches a workshop out. A fine and a coarse thread of the same diameter look identical, both will start, and running a coarse tap into a fine thread destroys it in one turn. Vehicles, machinery and precision equipment use fine threads extensively, and a set without them can only repair half the fasteners it meets.

The screw pitch gauge is therefore not an accessory here, it is essential. It settles which pitch you are dealing with before you commit a tap to a hole, and on a set that carries both pitches of every size, using it is the difference between a repair and a ruined component.

The NPT tap at 1/8-27 adds pipe threading — a tapered thread that seals by wedging metal against metal, used for pressure fittings, grease nipples, hydraulic ports and instrument connections. That is a job the metric taps cannot do at all.

Two tap wrenches are supplied, and the pairing is sensible: a T-type for M3-M6 and a bar type. Small taps want a T-handle because it gives feel and fits into confined spaces; larger taps want a bar for two-handed leverage and squareness.
