The point of a ratchet bar clamp is that it works with one hand, and once you have used one it is difficult to go back. Squeeze the trigger and the jaw advances a notch at a time onto the work; keep squeezing and it tightens. Your other hand is free the whole time, which is what matters, because the moment a clamp is most needed is usually the moment you are already holding two things together and have no hand left to wind a screw.

Four inches is the smallest and the handiest. It goes in a pocket or a pouch, it fits into places a larger clamp will not, and it is the one for light work: holding a small assembly while glue grabs, holding a template or a guide, gripping a workpiece to a bench edge, holding parts together for drilling or screwing, and the endless business of making something stay still for thirty seconds.
