At T50 the fixings are heavy — vehicle suspension and driveline components, machinery and plant mountings, structural fixings, heavy equipment assemblies. Cracking one of those loose after years in service takes serious torque, and the crossbar with both hands on it delivers it. That is what this tool is for.

Tightening is a different matter. Fasteners at this size almost always have a specified torque figure, often a high one, and a T-handle gives you no measurement at all. Combine that with the fact that Torx does not cam out — it has no wedging action, so nothing pushes the tool out to signal that a fastener is home — and you have a tool that will keep applying force with no feedback until something gives. On a suspension or mounting fixing, over-tightening means a stretched bolt that may fail later under load.

So the division is clear: loosen and run down with the T-handle, and tighten with a T50 socket or bit and a torque wrench. If you find yourself doing a lot of work at this size, a socket setup is the better long-term purchase and we would rather say so.

The material is forged chrome vanadium steel, hardened and tempered, satin finished and chrome plated for corrosion resistance. Forging flows the grain along the shaft rather than cutting across it, which is what raises the torque at which a key finally twists.
