T Handle Torx Key Wrench (T45 8.0x200)

A security Torx recess looks identical to an ordinary one but has a small pin standing up in the centre. It is used on equipment manufacturers do not want opened casually — vending and gaming machines, some vehicle components, electrical enclosures, public-facing equipment. A standard key will not seat on one: it will go part way in, feel wrong, and stop. If a T45 key refuses to go fully home in what looks like a T45 recess, look into the recess for a pin before deciding the key is the wrong size. Security Torx needs a key with a matching hole drilled down its centre, which is a separate tool.

For ordinary T45 fixings, this is a substantial size — machinery and equipment mountings, vehicle suspension and driveline components, structural fixings and heavy plant assemblies.

The T-handle gives two hands on the crossbar, which is what a seized T45 fastener needs. The 200mm shaft reaches deep counterbores. Once a screw is loose the shaft spins between the fingers.

The material is forged chrome vanadium steel, hardened and tempered, satin finished and chrome plated for corrosion resistance.

Two habits. Seat the key fully before applying force — at this torque a Torx key bearing on the tips of its points will round the recess quickly. And where a torque figure is specified, finish with a T45 bit and a torque wrench: Torx does not cam out to tell you a fastener is home, and a T-handle at 200mm gives you more leverage than most of these fixings are meant to receive.
