The small keys here run on 75mm shafts, this one on 100mm, the middle sizes on 150mm and the largest on 200mm. That is not arbitrary. Larger socket head cap screws are used on larger assemblies, and larger assemblies recess their fixings deeper — a bigger screw is usually further down a counterbore. Matching shaft length to key size means the tool reaches the fastener it was made for.

It also balances the tool. A long shaft on a very small key would flex and twist noticeably; a short shaft on a large key would put your hands uncomfortably close to the work under high torque. The pairing keeps both in proportion.

At 4mm with 100mm of reach, this suits machinery components, motorcycle and vehicle fittings, equipment housings, hydraulic fittings and general assembly.

The T-handle itself gives even, two-handed torque with nothing trying to tip the key sideways in the recess, and the shaft can be rolled between the fingers to spin a screw out once it is loose.

The material is forged chrome vanadium steel, hardened and tempered, with a satin finish and chrome plating for corrosion resistance.

Two habits. Clean the recess and push the key fully home before turning — a hex socket is shallow, and a key bearing on the top of the flats rounds them almost immediately. And be aware that a T-handle produces more torque than an L-key of the same size; at 4mm into aluminium that is enough to strip a thread without warning, so stop when the fastener seats rather than when it feels tight.
