At 10mm the fasteners are substantial — machinery and plant mountings, hydraulic and driveline components, structural assemblies, heavy equipment fixings. A T-handle will crack them loose and wind them out, and the crossbar with both hands on it gives genuinely useful torque for that.

What it is not is a controlled tightening tool at this size. Ten millimetre socket head cap screws are usually high tensile and usually have a specified torque figure, and a T-handle gives you no way to know what you are applying. Worse, the leverage available is more than enough to strip the thread in the aluminium or cast housing these frequently go into — the screw is stronger than its hole, and you will feel no warning before the hole gives.

So the sensible division of labour is: loosen and run down with the T-handle, and do the final tightening with a 10mm hex bit on a torque wrench. That combination is quick and correct, and it is what a workshop with a torque wrench should be doing anyway.

The material is forged chrome vanadium steel, hardened and tempered, with a satin finish and chrome plating for corrosion resistance. Forging flows the grain along the shaft rather than cutting across it, which raises the torque at which a key finally twists — and a snapped hardened key inside a socket head cannot be drilled out, which usually means a scrapped component.
