It drives M8 socket head cap screws, and M8 is a structural size in miniature. Which is why this is the size where a torque figure starts to appear in the manual, and where it is worth respecting. A long key gives real leverage, and real leverage against an M8 thread will take it past its proper tension without any obvious signal at your hand. The clamping force in a bolted joint is not a bonus, it is the joint itself: too little and the assembly works loose under vibration, too much and the bolt is already stretched near its limit before the machine has even run. Neither condition announces itself.

The practical answer on anything that carries load is to use the key for what it is good at and finish with the tool that measures. Break the screw loose with the key, run it down with the key, and where the manufacturer gives a figure, set it with a torque wrench and a hex bit. We stock both.

There is a second point that belongs at this size and gets ignored. Torque figures assume a clean thread. Force spent overcoming corrosion, paint or grit inside the threads never arrives as clamping force at all, so a joint tightened to the correct reading through a fouled thread is loose and nobody can tell by looking. On machinery that has stood through a few monsoons, chasing the thread out first is not tidiness.

The long pattern earns itself on motor and pump mountings, where screws sit in pockets between castings and a short key cannot be entered straight.
