A 22mm socket head cap screw is a serious fastener. They hold press frames and dies, crusher and quarry plant, conveyor drive units, large gearbox and bearing housings, excavator and tractor attachment mountings, and heavy machine guarding — places where the fixing carries real load and was tightened to match.

Which brings the honest part. At this size the limit is rarely the key. A fastener like that has often been set with a torque multiplier or by hydraulic tension, and after a few years in this climate the thread has corroded into place on top of it. You can put both hands on the arm and get nowhere. The answer then is not more leverage: it is penetrating oil and time, heat where the assembly allows it, then shock, in that order. Pulling harder only risks the recess, and a socket head has no flats on the outside to grip if you round the inside out.

A screw this size sits at the bottom of a counterbore machined to suit it, often a long way down, and a short key would not reach the recess at all — never mind leave enough arm outside to hold on to. At the large sizes the long pattern is not a refinement, it is the only thing that gets there.

It is forged chrome vanadium, hardened and tempered. Forging counts for more at this section than at any small size, because grain flowing along the bar rather than being cut across it is what lets a key carry the torque a fastener of this diameter expects.
