Double Ring Spanner (8x9)

Eight and nine are paired because that is how they occur. Fastener sizes do not turn up at random across an assembly: a designer working on a small machine, a motorcycle ancillary, a pump body or an electrical enclosure picks from a narrow band, and the fixings you meet within arm's reach of each other tend to be neighbours. Pairing consecutive sizes on one spanner means that for a great deal of work, one tool in your hand covers the job. You flip it rather than going back to the box, and going back to the box is where the time actually goes.

That is the real argument for double ended spanners over individual ones, and it is a practical rather than a technical argument. Fewer tools for the same coverage means a lighter roll, a smaller bag, less to lose, and less to buy. A fitter carrying a set of double enders up a ladder or into a plant room is carrying half of what the same coverage would otherwise weigh.

Worth knowing about our range while you are choosing: the individual double ring spanners run 8x9, then jump to 12x13, 14x15, 16x17 and 18x19. There is no 10x11 pair. Ten and eleven are both common sizes, so if that is the band you work in, the individual combination spanners are where to fill it.

Both ends here are rings, which means both ends surround the fastener completely and grip all six faces. Nothing slips off a ring, and for that reason a double ring is the pattern most fitters trust on anything tight.

The spanner is forged chrome vanadium, hardened and tempered, with a satin matt chrome finish for corrosion protection.
