The size belongs to genuinely heavy work: truck, bus and trailer axle and hub assemblies, earthmoving and quarry plant, large pump, compressor and generator mountings, marine and industrial machinery, and heavy structural steelwork.

Two honest things about buying at the top of a spanner range.

The first is that a spanner is not always the right tool at this size, and it is worth deciding rather than defaulting. On a fastener that is merely tight, in a place a socket cannot reach or where there is no room for a ratchet, this spanner is exactly what you want and nothing else will do. On a large fastener that is seized, or one with a published torque figure that has to be set accurately, a socket on a heavy drive is the better arrangement, because the force runs straight down the axis of the fastener and can be measured and controlled. Many workshops own both and use each where it belongs. If you tell us the job, we will say which we think you need, including when that means selling you the cheaper thing.

The second is that our range stops here. Fasteners above 32mm exist in plenty on heavy plant, and if that is what you are facing, none of the spanners on this site will fit and no combination of them substitutes. Ask us before you order rather than buying the largest we list and hoping, and we will find out what can be obtained.

The spanner is forged carbon steel, hardened and tempered, finished in satin matt chrome. At this size the tool is heavy, so use two hands, engage the ring fully onto the nut before loading it, and think about where it will go when the fastener releases.
