At two feet, this is a tool that generates very large forces, and the honest thing to say is that its own adjusting mechanism is the limiting factor rather than the handle. An adjustable wrench holds two flats through a movable jaw carried on a worm screw, and that jaw flexes under load — inherent to the design at any size, and pronounced at this one. You can comfortably apply enough force to splay the jaw, and once it splays the grip moves to the corners of the nut and rounds them. On plant fittings, that is an expensive thing to do.

What justifies owning one is coverage. Large industrial fittings come in a wide scatter of sizes, many non-standard, and carrying a full set of large spanners to cover them is impractical for a maintenance fitter. One 24" adjustable covers a great deal.

The discipline is therefore the whole of using it well. Wind the jaw fully down until it is genuinely snug on the flats, and re-check after the first pull because it settles. Pull in the direction of the movable jaw so the load goes into the fixed jaw and the frame. Never put a pipe over the handle. And when a fitting will not move, use penetrating oil, heat, a large socket or a pipe wrench — a bigger adjustable is not the answer to a seized fitting, it is the way a seized fitting becomes a rounded one.
