A 300mm saw is the one that fits in the bag. Not a full-size carpentry saw and not a specialist board saw — a compact general saw for the cuts that come up when you did not bring a saw for them.
That is the honest case for owning one. Trimming a batten to length, cutting a piece of ply to fit an opening, sizing a length of skirting, cutting back a projecting fixing, garden and site tidying work, cutting timber down to fit in a vehicle. A 20" saw does all of these better if you have it with you, and this is the saw you actually have with you.
The short blade also brings genuine advantages of its own. It is stiffer for its length, so it wanders less on a small cut, and it works close to a wall or inside a confined space where a long blade would foul on something behind it.
The plate is heat-treated 65Mn manganese spring steel — springy enough to flex through a cut and come back straight, which is what stops a saw binding in its own kerf. The teeth are hardened past HRC 53 and ground on two sides for a sharp edge that clears chips as it cuts. As with the rest of the range, teeth that hard are past the point where a file will bite, so it is a saw you replace rather than sharpen.
The handle is soft TPR, which grips with wet or dusty hands.
Because it is short, let the saw do the work rather than forcing it — a short blade tempts people to push hard and cut at a steep angle, which binds it. Start the kerf on the pull stroke, then use the full length of the blade.
The buyers are maintenance technicians and service engineers who carry a compact kit, second-fix carpenters, shopfitters, electricians and plumbers who occasionally need to cut timber rather than pipe, and households wanting one saw that stores easily. It is also a common choice for a vehicle toolkit.
For real carpentry, the 20" saws cut far faster and straighter and are the right buy. For board work, the 6" wall board saw is the specialist. Message us on WhatsApp and we will price whichever combination suits, delivered island-wide.
